DMS-104 - Cardiac Ultrasound (4 credits)
Prerequisite(s): PREREQUISITES: MAT108, PHY100, DMS105, DMS102C, BIO161 COREQUISITES: DMS114C, BIO162, PHY127
This course focuses on the ultrasonic investigation of the heart. Echocardiography will be viewed from both an historical, as well as state-of-the-art perspective. The anatomy and physiology, particularly the cross-sectional anatomy of the mediastinal contents, will be reviewed. Echocardiograms representative of normal cardiac anatomy will be presented and compared with examinations performed by other diagnostic modalities. Procedural and scanning techniques will be presented, as well as sonographic positioning unique to echocardiography.
