Course Description

MAS-202 - Advanced Clinical Massage Techniques (5 credits)
Prerequisite(s): PREREQUISITES: MAS201 and MAS211 COREQUISITES: MAS212
This course examines the role of the massage therapist as a professional member of the health care community. Students will explore the connection between massage therapy and other disciplines such as psychology, chiropractic and physical therapy. Discussions will focus on the value of continuing education to advance and enhance therapeutic skills. Strategies on how to open and operate an independent massage therapy practice will be identified and explored in depth. The laboratory portion of the course is devoted to the practice of advanced clinical techniques used in therapeutic massage. Students will learn integrative deep tissue massage, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy and myofascial release. Soft tissue management continues with acupressure, Shiatsu and passive assisted stretching for stress management and pain relief.
