This course is designed to provide experience in the field of health information in acute care hospitals, non-acute care facilities and in a simulated laboratory setting. Analyzing, coding, abstracting and patient registries are re-emphasized. In addition, students gain experience in healthcare statistics, quality improvement and regulatory requirements. The planning and organizing aspects of the Health Information Department are experienced during the time of these practice sessions.
