The Certificate in American Sign Language is designed to provide language training for people who wish to learn American Sign Language. This program will not prepare students to become interpreters but is strictly to learn about deafness, Deaf culture and improve communication skills. This program is also helpful for parents of Deaf children. Graduates of the program will gain skills in American Sign Language and an understanding of Deaf culture. They will have a working knowledge of a variety of ways to communicate effectively with Deaf adults and children who depend on visual representations of English for communication.
