Typing Test Procedures

QUARTERLY TESTING

Quarterly testing will be available to all SEIU employees at each campus. Test scores are electronically maintained and will be posted to the applicant’s current application for future bids on positions if it is the highest score or there is no valid score on file.

Testing will be available during the following months: January, April, July, and October. Contact your campus Business office or College Office Human Resources for further instruction. Note: This schedule is not available for external applicants.

VACANCY TESTING

Internal applicants will be asked to take job-related assessment tests when no valid score is on file.  An internal applicant who refuses to be assessed may be denied the job for that reason.  Internal applicants applying for a lateral position, title-to-title, will be exempt from the typing test portion of testing. Testing is also needed for position reclassifications in which typing speed requirements are higher than the current job. Testing is required for all external applicants.

A test score on file that is over a year old is invalid.  Applicants may test or retest after applying to a new position.  If retesting, either the score previously on file (if within one year) or the new score, whichever is higher, will be used. Each score used will be valid for up to one year from the date of the test or until replaced by a higher score during a retest.

Testing for an internal applicant will be done at the home campus whenever possible, but must be done on non-working hours. The campus Business office will work with Human Resources to setup the test.  External applicants will test in the Human Resources department at College Office.

Test scores will be posted to the individual’s current application. Minimums for job-related assessment tests apply.  The minimum typing requirements for SEIU positions are listed below.
