The Nursing Divisions of the Community College of Allegheny County and the California University of Pennsylvania have joined together in a unique relationship. Students interested in pursuing a career in nursing may begin with the Associate's Degree program in nursing offered by CCAC faculty on the California University Campus. Upon completion of the Associate's Degree, students may choose to enter the RN completion program at California University to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This cooperative effort will provide easy access to a basic nursing program and an upper division nursing program for students in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The Community College of Allegheny County Nursing Program produces more nursing graduates than any other two-year college in the United States. Graduates are well prepared to obtain an entry-level job immediately after graduation or for transfer to a four-year institution such as California University for continued study toward a Bachelor’s Degree. Today’s nursing students are strongly encouraged to pursue the BSN.
CCAC’s nursing curriculum is strong in both the art and science of nursing as well as laboratory and clinical experience. The program has evolved to prepare students with increased technical expertise while maintaining a strong emphasis on care and compassion.
The California University of Pennsylvania Upper Division Nursing Program is designed to promote scientific inquiry, critical thinking, independent judgement and accountability. This program for the RN student builds on the student’s competencies, experiences and basic education in nursing. The CCAC RN graduate can easily transfer the credits earned for the Associate's Degree toward the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
