
Blackboard (Bb) is the course management system used for Internet, Web-enhanced and technology-supported instruction. Through Blackboard, an instructor creates and maintains a unique "course site" (Web site) for each course that he or she is teaching.
Blackboard is accessed through the Web; therefore, there is no software to install or download to a personal or office computer. A Web browser and an Internet connection are virtually all that is required to build and facilitate online lessons and courses.

Blackboard can also be an effective organization and communication tool for other types of distance learning and non-distance learning courses. In addition, Blackboard can be used to create and host a "Virtual Community" for department, committee, or group organization.
