As of Fall 2004 term, Microsoft Office 2003 is installed in academic labs to support CIT coursework. During the Fall 2004 through Spring 2005, Office 2003 and Outlook 2003 will be installed in all offices:
Before this occurs, everyone will receive advanced notification with training sessions offered through Professional Development.
Computer Hardware/Software Technicians will begin to schedule times to upgrade employee computers to Office 2003. This may require a total reinstallation of all software on your computer, only if you are scheduled to receive an upgraded PC. You will be notified by email at least 3 days in advance before a technician comes to your office to upgrade your PC.
If you have any questions, please call your respective Director of ITS Field Operations.
Copies of Office 2003 and Windows XP (and instructions) are now available for sign-out for home installations.
The only maintenance you should want to do prior to the Office 2003 upgrade is to save your Office XP Settings. Your Office settings, or profile, are a group of settings that defines your Office program preferences and options. These settings include the following: toolbar modifications; menu modifications; settings in the Options dialog box (Tools menu); default location for templates, files, and clip art; default format for saving files; AutoCorrect lists; custom dictionaries; Office shortcut bar customization; and templates.
This means that all files currently installed on your hard drive (C:) will be removed. It is the user's responsibility to save all documents and settings prior to your upgrade. You must remember to locate and backup all of the following:
*The Netscape browser has been discontinued and the latest version of Internet Explorer (IE) is the College standard browser. You may save your current bookmarks for use in IE.
If you need assistance in saving files, bookmarks and/or printing your desktop screen, please call the ITS Help Desk at x3275 (College Centers to dial 412-237-3275). If you do not save your files to disk or F: drive you will lose them. Once the upgrade is completed the technician that upgraded your computer will assist you in moving all of your data back to the computer’s hard drive or drive C:
SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
See Standard Installation to view all standard software that will be loaded on your upgraded PC besides Windows XP.
Customization features: you will have the ability to continue to modify the look of your desktop (fonts, colors, etc.) as well as engage any Windows XP built-in wall paper & screen savers.
At the time of the Windows XP installation, the technician can also install any peripheral device (printers, scanners, etc.) and any special software supplied by the employee that is Windows XP compatible. However, software installation is limited to legally licensed software packages owned by CCAC. We are not permitted to install software owned by anyone other than CCAC. A single licensed copy cannot be shared among employees. When requested to install special software, technicians will be asking for a copy of license agreements.
