The Public Safety Institute (PSI) is a department within Community College of Allegheny County.
The institute was established in the early 1980's, predominately offering Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs. In the early 1990's, CCAC expanded the mission of the institute that currently include the areas of EMS, Fire, Hazardous Materials, Communications, Emergency Vehicle Operations and Counter Terrorism. With the expansion of the department’s role, the name was changed to better reflect our market – the Public Safety Institute.
The programs that are offered vary from 1 hour to 1,220+ hours in the new EMT Paramedic Training program. We train approximately 12,000 students per year in public safety programs.
The Public Safety Institute conducts many courses at locations in Allegheny, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Warren, and Washington Counties.
