CPD Public Safety Institute

The Public Safety Institute (PSI) is a department within Community College of Allegheny County.

The institute was established in the early 1980's, predominately offering Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs. In the early 1990s, CCAC expanded the mission of the institute that currently includes the areas of EMS, Fire, Hazardous Materials, Emergency Vehicle Operations and Emergency Management. With the expansion of the department’s role, the name was changed to better reflect our market—the Public Safety Institute.

The programs we offer vary from 1 hour to 1200 hours in the Paramedic certification course. We train approximately 15,000 students per year in public safety programs.

The Public Safety Institute conducts courses at locations in Allegheny, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Warren and  Washington Counties.
