These courses are designed to enable you to contribute to the reduction of the harm created by hazardous materials emergencies. These courses develop skills with which to identify the hazardous materials problem in their communities; recognize hazardous material presence; and identify the specific hazardous material(s) and associated hazard characteristics.
Federal regulations (OSHA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards require that anyone who might come into contact with hazardous materials need to learn about HAZMAT. Our programs include general information about hazardous materials, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); incident command and control procedures; personal protection equipment (PPE) and everything else you may need to know to be prepared in the event that you become involved in a HAZMAT incident.

• HAZARDOUS MATERIAL AWARENESS
  This course will provide instruction in the basic skills of identifying hazardous materials problems in a community, recognize hazardous materials, identify hazardous materials and the associated hazard characteristics.
  
• HAZMAT OPERATIONS
  This course is designed to prepare the student to respond to hazardous materials incidents at the First Responder Operations Level. Topics include: Protect your health and safety during a HAZMAT incident, recognize hazardous materials, prevent or minimize exposure to hazardous materials, defensively control hazardous materials incidents.
  
• EMS HAZARDOUS MATERIAL OPERATIONS
  This course trains the EMS Responder in those knowledge and skills required of EMS personnel at the Operations level for hazardous materials response. It has been reviewed and approved by the Community College of Allegheny County for this purpose. The course is heavily oriented toward EMS personnel.
