Selective Admission Criteria
The Health Information Technology program at the Allegheny Campus of the Community College of Allegheny County is a limited enrollment program.
The following pre-program requirements must be completed with a grade of C or better before final acceptance into the Health Information Technology Program:
Facilities and Equipment
CCAC offers students state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including a dedicated HIT laboratory housed in Milton Hall with 20 computers that connect to the campus network.
Clinical experiences are provided in area health care facilities as well as the campus HIT lab.
All HIT students are required to have a physical examination, updated immunizations, child abuse clearance and a criminal background check completed prior to their first professional practice experience. In addition, some facilities may require additional lab tests and fingerprinting. Students are responsible for any fees incurred as a result of completing these requirements.
CCAC utilizes community advisory committees in all of its health career programs. The HIT program advisory committee is comprised of health information practitioners, faculty and college administrators who provide advice regarding curriculum revisions, marketing and recruiting, changing employment opportunities and clinical education. Advisory committee members serve as the liaison between the health care community and the college.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Scholarships are available through the American Health Information Management Association and the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association. Also, for additional information, see the Types of Aid section on the CCAC website.
