Selective Admission Criteria
The Health Information Technology program at the Allegheny Campus of the Community College of Allegheny County is a limited enrollment program.
The following pre-program requirements must be completed with a grade of C or better before final acceptance into the Health Information Technology Program:
Facilities and Equipment
CCAC offers students state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including a dedicated HIT laboratory housed in Milton Hall with 20 computers that connect to the campus network.
Clinical experiences are provided in almost all acute care hospitals in Western Pennsylvania. In addition, students receive a variety of clinical experiences in the non-acute care setting such as long-term care, behavioral health, rehabilitation and ambulatory care.
All HIT students are required to have a history and physical examination completed prior to their first professional practice experience. Students are responsible for any fees incurred as a result of completing the required health form and immunizations.
CCAC utilizes community advisory boards in all of its health career programs. The HIT program advisory board is made up of health information practitioners, faculty and college administrators who provide advice regarding curriculum revisions, marketing and recruiting, changing employment opportunities and clinical education. Advisory board members serve as the liaison between the health care community and the college.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Scholarships are available through the American Health Information Management Association and the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association. Please see the section in the College Catalog on Financial Planning and Financial Aid pertaining to grants, loan programs, work programs and additional scholarships.
