HIT–Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the Associate Degree in Health Information Technology, the graduate will be able to:
- Apply legal principles, policies, regulations and standards for the control and use of health information
- Monitor, interpret and apply laws and accreditation, licensure and certification standards affecting healthcare data
- Review health records documentation for accuracy and completeness according to regulations and standards
- Perform quantitative analysis of health records
- Perform functions related to collection, storage, and retrieval of healthcare data
- Query databases to retrieve information
- Collect, compute, analyze, interpret, and present statistical data related to health care services
- Abstract health records for department indices/databases/registries
- Code, classify, and index diagnoses and procedures for the purpose of reimbursement, standardization, retrieval and statistical analysis
- Develop, implement and monitor procedures to ensure healthcare data integrity
- Apply principles of supervision and leadership and the tools used to effectively manage human resources, financials and the methods for analyzing and improving departmental systems
- Apply quality improvement tools and techniques to improve departmental processes
