Radiation Therapy Technology Mission & Objectives

MISSION

Radiation Therapy Technology is an integral part of the Allied Health Department at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Communities of interest include students, faculty, graduates, regional clinical facilities and patients. The mission of the program is to provide a quality education to radiation therapy students learning to administer ionizing radiation to patients according to the physician’s prescription.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of the RTT program graduates will be able to:

  • function as competent, technically proficient entry-level practitioners on a cancer treatment team in a clinical setting;
  • use and demonstrate oral and written communications skills;

  • use and demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving and computation skills;

  • use electronic medical charting for simulation, treatment, and billing purposes;

  • fulfill the Radiation Therapy community needs for qualified, employable therapists; and

  • demonstrate professional characteristics necessary to promote the importance of lifelong learning and medical ethics in patient care.
