WHAT'S HOT

Making Work Pay provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Effective March 1, 2009, CCAC implemented the new withholding tax tables for the 2009 and 2010, Making Work Pay provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  The changes to the tables may result in an increase in your take-home pay. The act provides a refundable tax credit of up to $400 for working individuals and $800 for married taxpayers filing joint returns.  It is calculated at a rate of 6.2 percent of earned income and is phased out for taxpayers with adjusted gross income in excess of $75,000, or $150,000 for married couples filing jointly.

The amount of the credit must be reported on the employee's 2009 income tax return filed in 2010. It is not necessary to submit a Form W-4 to get the automatic withholding change.

Note to employees with multiple jobs or married couples whose combined incomes place them in a higher tax bracket:

You may elect to submit a revised W-4 to ensure enough withholding is held to cover the tax for his or her combined income. Publication 919 provides additional guidance for tax withholding.

Local Services Tax Reminder

If CCAC is your secondary employer you must submit at the beginning of each calendar year a Local Services Tax Exemption form along with proof that you are having the Local Services Tax deducted by your primary employer.

New procedures for Stop Payments on Lost/Stolen Paychecks

You will be required to complete a Stop Payment Request Form when you ask for a stop payment to be placed on your paycheck.  The College has begun to charge employees a Stop Payment fee of $20.00 which will be deducted from the replacement check to recover the costs involved with replacing the paycheck.
