What is CCSSE?
The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) is designed to provide information on learning-centered indicators of quality for community and technical colleges nationwide. The survey instrument, The Community College Student Report (CCSR), is a versatile, research-based tool with multiple uses. Understanding these learning-centered indicators is important because research shows that students who more frequently read, write and interact in positive ways with their teachers and peers gain essential skills and competencies and are more likely to achieve their educational goals (Kuh, 2000). CCSSE provides colleges with this vital information about their learning environment and educational practices. The results from the survey will be useful for diagnosis, benchmarking performance and monitoring progress of improvement efforts associated with the Achieving the Dream initiative.
The Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSSE) is offered as a companion to the Community College Student Report. The survey elicits information from faculty about their teaching practices; the ways they spend their professional time, both in and out of class; and their perceptions regarding students' educational experiences.
