Career Transition Center for Dislocated Workers
The Career Transition Center for Dislocated Workers was created and implemented to address the state’s Rapid Response initiative for handling dislocated workers in Allegheny County via the Dislocated Worker Tuition Waiver Program.
Dislocated workers may take classes at CCAC toward the successful completion of one of the approved certificate programs for free tuition and fees only (no more than 36 credits within a 24-month period).
To start the inquiry process, call the Career Transition Center at 412.788.7351.
Eligibility
Anyone in good standing with the institution can apply. Individuals must:
- Be a resident of Allegheny County;
- Have a letter from their employer verifying that they were laid off from a full-time position through no fault of their own, but as a result of company lay-offs due to the poor economic climate;
- Attend CCAC within one (1) year of the lay-off;
- Be continually enrolled at a minimum of 6 credits per semester (including summer session) for credit programs toward the completion of a certificate program focusing on a high-priority, high-demand program of study; and
- Apply for financial aid and utilize any grant funds from this source first; what is not covered of the tuition and fees will then be picked up by the Dislocated Worker Tuition Waiver.
Notes:
- Students may only receive the tuition waiver in one certificate program.
- Students are responsible for books, supplies and materials. The waiver only applies to tuition and fees.
- The waiver is not retroactive to a current or previous semester, and students may not be currently enrolled in any other Dislocated Worker Tuition Waiver program.
- Any additional credits beyond the 36-credit limit and/or the expiration of the 24-month period become the student’s obligation.
- Students should contact their Financial Aid Office to explore other potential funding sources.
- Students should register with CCAC Job Placement & Career Services on CCAC Career Services College Central for the following services: loading resumes, searching and applying for positions and having profiles/resumes viewed by potential employers. In addition, Job Placement & Career Services personnel can assist in the job search and forward student profiles/resumes to prospective employers.
