The Vanguard Diversity Awards are given annually to individuals, nonprofit organizations or businesses that have demonstrated exemplary leadership, vision, or service in promoting diversity and inclusion in Allegheny County and the greater Pittsburgh area. Nominees are identified in three categories:  Individual Trailblazer, College, and Organizational. Winners in the 2012 College category and the Lifetime Achievement Award are:

College Award: Jacqueline Cavalier, History Professor  in recognition of her efforts to expand student knowledge of labor relations, race relations, and women's history both inside and outside the college.

CCAC Honors Program:  Accepted by Julia Fennell, Director and English Professor, in recognition of its service to students, the college and the community in developing an understanding of the importance of diversity in all of its forms.

Lifetime Achievement Award:  Ralph Proctor, Ethnic and Diversity Studies Professor, in recognition of his lifelong commitment to ensuring recognition of the past, present, and future needs of racial relations.
