The four CCAC campus libraries have an extensive collection of music CDs, representing a variety of genres and styles. You can search for music CDs a number of ways: by Author (composer, performer, or group), Subject, Keyword, or Title.
To access Alleycat, go to http://ccac.edu/library/. Select catalog: books, VHS/DVDs, CDs listed under FINDING INFORMATION. Select your home campus or the Offsite Access option. The Basic Search screen appears, with the default Keyword search option:
To search for CDs of a particular composer, performer or group, select Author and type the last name of the composer, or performer, or the name of the group, and click Go. Examples of possible Author searches are:
- Beethoven
- Dylan, Bob
- U2
Click on the "author's" name in the list that appears and a list of materials will appear. You can quickly spot the CDs by the icon:
Or use the Limit by function and select Sound recordings, CDs, etc.:
In a similar way, you can search for CDs by Subject Heading (LC) or by Keyword. When searching for music CDs, Keyword is usually the better option. Examples of some Keyword searches are:
- jazz
- blues
- musicals
- rock music
- rap music
Once the Search Results appear, you can use the Limit by function and select Sound recordings, CDs, etc.
After limiting the search results to sound recordings, you can then use the Sort by function to sort by Title, or Author, or Publication Date. The Author option is the most useful at this point:
Of course, you could select your Limit by and Sort by options at the same time.
For more detailed information on a particular CD, click on the title in the Search Results list, or click on the Show details link at the far right of the title. If the CD is at another campus, you can have it sent over to your home campus by clicking on the Request Item button
and entering the ID number on your CCAC ID card.
Be sure to check the Status to make sure that the CD is checked in; otherwise you will have to wait for the item to be returned before it can be sent to your home library.
If the item is checked in, it usually takes three to four working days for it to arrive at your home campus.
