MasterFILE Premier covers popular and social magazines and journals. It is a good general database useful for many careers. Use other EBSCOhost databases, such as Business Source Premier and CINAHL as appropriate for your career area.
Search Tip: At the main search screen, enter the career name in the first search box. Enter some specific words to limit the search to career related articles. Some words you could enter are:
- careers
- job outlook
- jobs
- employment
- salary
- salaries
If there are variations of a word, such as accountANTS and account/ing, put those words together on one line separated by "or."
Putting job outlook on one line will search for the words together as a phrase rather than as separate unrelated words.
Examples:Line 1: accountants or accounting (in all fields)
AND
Line 2: salary or salaries (in all fields)
Line 1: nurses or nursing (in all fields)
AND
Line 2: job outlook (in all fields)

- The online version of THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine, provides career and self-development information to Black college students and all people of color. Of interest not only to college students, but also to career professionals. Includes a job search, employer information, and resume posting.
- Careers in Business
- This site provides overview information on careers in accounting, consulting, finance, marketing, and non-profit. Includes links to many other job and career sites and lists books and sites on specific careers.
- Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh: Career and Job Education Center
- The librarians at the Job and Career Education Center maintain a website that lists resources available at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as well as internet sites related to careers, jobs, education and educational financial aid.
- JobStar
- Sponsored by libraries, this is an excellent source for information on resumes, careers and salaries. Provides links to web sites on specific careers. Job listings are mostly for California; Jersey City, New Jersey; Asia; and Europe.
- Occupational Outlook Handbook
- Current online version of the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). Libraries may also have print versions. The OOH is an excellent starting point for research on careers.
- O*NET OnLine
- Includes information on skills, abilities, knowledge, work activities, and interests associated with occupations. Find out what jobs fit your interests, skills, and experience. View information on particular careers.
- Standard Occupational Classification
- Provides the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system which replaces the Dictionary of Occupational Titles as the official source for standard definitions of occupations. Newer resources will refer to the SOC number when describing careers instead of the older Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) number.

- Includes samples resumes and tips on writing effective resumes for over 20 career areas. There are online workshops that take you through the process of writing and evaluating your resume. CAUTION: This is a commercial site. You will encounter advertisements for their resume writing books and services.

- America's Job Bank
- Search for job postings by menu, keyword, military code and other methods. Also provides wage and occupational trends. You must register (free) to create and post a resume online.

- The Riley Guide: Employment Opportunities and Job Resources on the Internet
- One of the oldest and best sites for job hunting on the web. Provides links to other sites that provide job postings, career information, resume assistance and more.
- Team PA CareerLink
- Provides access to statewide information on jobs, training and employers. Includes services for both Pennsylvania employers and job seekers. Job seekers can post a resume. Free registration is required to access all services.
- True Careers Jobs and Employment
- Postings of primarily technical jobs from hundreds of employers. Create and post your resume (free registration required).
- USAJOBS
- USAJOBS is the site most often recommended for active government job seekers. The site includes searching capabilities, tips on writing resumes and other materials related to qualifications. It also provides space for one or more electronic applications. Applying for government positions requires a lot of information in particular format. The USAJOBS site is very helpful and easy to navigate.
