- Geographic Names Information System (GNIS)
- Geographic names for all known places, features, and areas in the United States that are identified by a proper name. Each feature is located by state, county, and geographic coordinates; and referenced to the appropriate U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) topographic map.
- Historic Pittsburgh - Maps
- A joint project of the University of Pittsburgh and the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, Historic Pittsburgh provides Web access to a full-text book collection, maps, and guides to the archival and manuscript collections of both of these institutions, covering the history of Pittsburgh and the surrounding Western Pennsylvania area from the period of exploration and settlement to the period of industrial revolution and modernization. The Maps Collection will eventually contain a representative selection of approximately 700 plat maps from 1872 to 1939.
- Historical Atlas of the 20th Century
- Created by a librarian, this atlas site contains information largely from the public realm. Such well-known atlases as Hammond's, Rand McNally, and Oxford are used. Many links to other historical map sites are listed on both a chronological and topical basis.
- Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection
- University of Texas at Austin - online access to maps covering every area of the world.
- Portals to the World
- An electronic database created by Library of Congress, contains a large number of selective links to websites that provide information on nations and areas of the world. Countries and areas are arranged alphabetically. Links are provided to websites in areas such as general resources, government and law, literature and culture, news and current events, libraries, directories and search engines. When complete, all nations and important areas will be included.
- United Nations Cartographic Section
- Digitally-prepared, current maps available for reference and download, including general world and peacekeeping mission maps.
- World Factbook (CIA)
- A web version of a publication put out by the Central Intelligence Agency United States Government profiles and maps of countries and territories around the World cover each country's area, political climate, recent international disputes, natural resources, environment, populations, inflation rate, GDP, agriculture, etc. Another website designed by the Library of Congress, Globastat: Country Rankings and World Statistics, categorizes the same information and presents it on a comparative basis. Countries and regions are ranked for each category.
