Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions: Created in 1973, the ASAHP began as an organization comprised of administrators and educators in Allied Health education. Their purpose was to provide an interdisciplinary association to improve the quality and quantity of health occupations. Today, the membership consists of 105 academic institutions, 2 professional associations and 300 individual members.
The Center for Health Careers: Timely information regarding Pennsylvania based nursing and allied health education programs are provided at this site. Links to educational institutions and career preparation information is also available.
Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs: Currently, CAAHEP reviews and accredits over 2000 programs in 21 Allied Health occupations in the United States and Canada. Their web site offers a link to finding accredited programs by state, in 23 Allied Health professions.
National Network of Health Career Programs in Two Year Colleges: Health care leaders from two year colleges comprise the National Network. Their goals are to promote collaboration and communication among colleges promoting health programs and to identify and develop new leaders in health career education.

American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine: The AIUM was established in 1952; its goal then and now has been to insure that its members - these include physicians, sonographers, scientists and engineers - are provided with the most up to date and accurate information and skills training, while ensuring the safety of patients.
Health Professions Network: Health Professions Network is made up of volunteers from all aspects of Allied Health including educators, accreditors and administrators. Diagnostic Medical Sonography is their August 2006 highlight and provides an overview of the profession as well as helpful links.
Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography: Founded in 1970, the SDMS's goal is to advance the science of sonography and the practice of diagnostic medical sonography. Online access to The Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography is available to members; nonmembers have access to the table of contents of the current issue.

National Association of EMS Educators: "The mission of The National Association of EMS Educators is to promote EMS Education, develop and deliver educational resources, and advocate research and life long learning." Their site provides access to links, news, position papers and publications.
National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians: NAEMT's mission is to represent views and opinions of pre-hospital care personnel. The professional membership will be served through educational programs, development of national standards and liaison activities.

American Health Information Management Association: Representing more than 46,000 members, AHIMA provides professional and career development, facilitates member communication, advocates public policy that advances health information management and sets standards for education and certification.
Health Industry Business Communications Council: The HIBCC is a nonprofit, industry supported organization. It is ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited and its primary goal is to develop standards to facilitate information exchange among health care partners. Because HIBCC has continually met industry standards, its has become involved in such issues as electronic data interchange message formats, bar code labeling standards and universal numbering systems.
Medical Records Institute: Founded in 1983, MRI has worked to assure the development and acceptance of electronic health care. Their web site provides access to conference information, resources and publications.

American Massage Therapy Association: Representing 46,000 members in 27 countries, the American Massage Therapy Association works to promote massage therapy as an essential to the maintenance of good health and as a compliment to other therapeutic processes.
American Medical Massage Association: By promoting professional standards, education and testing, the AMMA strives to assist therapists in the growth, image and protection of their profession.
Massage Therapy Journal: This publication of the American Massage Therapy Association is available online from the present back to the Winter of 1999.
Touch Research Institutes: Founded in 1992 with a grant from Johnson & Johnson, the TRI was the first institution dedicated to the study of touch as it applies to science and medicine. Studies made on subjects from newborn to senior citizens have shown positive results from massage therapy.

American Association of Medical Assistants: AAMA's primary goals are threefold: to protect the medical assistant's right to practice; to promote skilled health care delivery; and to enable CMAs (Certified Medical Assistants) to practice their skills and professionalism
American Medical Technologists: AMT represents nearly 27,000 professionals. The mission of the organization is to provide certification credentials to medical and dental assistants, clinical laboratory personnel, lab consultants and allied health instructors.

Journal of Nuclear Medicine: JNM is a peer reviewed publication; its scope and coverage make it the most widely read journal in the field of Nuclear Medicine. Abstracts of current and archived issues are available to anyone; full text is available only to members.
Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board: Founded in 1977, the NMTCB's goal is to promote quality patient care and serve all segments of the population by the establishment of standards and procedures to enable individuals to succeed in the filed of nuclear medicine.
Society of Nuclear Medicine: Founded in 1954, the Society of Nuclear Medicine promotes the technology and practical application of nuclear medicine; it is comprised of 16,000 members. The Society sponsors meetings and workshops, publishes newsletters, journals and books in their effort to promote advances in their field.

American Kinesiotherapy Association: Employing legislation and public relations, the AKTS hopes to improve recognition of the profession of kinesiotherapy. It also provides educational opportunities to enhance the standard of care kinesiotherapists give.
American Occupational Therapy Association: A nationally recognized organization, the AOTA is comprised of more than 40,000 occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and OT students. They work with people who are experiencing health problems such as developmental disorders, stroke, mental diseases and other physical injuries. Abstracts of articles from the American Journal of Occupational Therapy are available to nonmembers; members of AOTA have access to the full text.
American Occupational Therapy Foundation: Created in 1965, the AOTF is a non-profit organization whose goal is to advance the science of Occupational Therapy and to make the public aware of its value. The Foundation works with the American Occupational Therapy Association to fund research grants and to fund 3 Centers for Scholarships and Research in Occupational Therapy. AOTF offers 70 scholarships every year and publishes the Occupational Therapy Journal of Research.
American Therapeutic Recreation Association: Incorporated in 1984, ATRA is the largest professional organization representing recreational therapists. The Association relies heavily on input from its chapter members and from a consumer advisory network.
National Rehabilitation Association: The National Rehabilitation Association is the oldest and most powerful advocate for persons with disabilities. Their mission is to provide awareness, advocacy and career advancement for rehabilitation professionals.
Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association: The POTA operates within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide a forum for professional learning to occupational therapy practitioners and to insure access to occupational therapy services.

American Society for Clinical Pathology: The ASCP is dedicated to enhancing the profession of pathology and laboratory medicine through their educational, scientific and charitable efforts. Selected articles from their publications The American Journal of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are available to the general public.
American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians: A.S.P.T.'s primary functions include testing and certifying trained phlebotomists. It also provides member newsletters, creates cross-training programs, and provides material for home study. The Society was founded in 1983 and is the second oldest certifying agency in the country.
National Phlebotomy Association: The National Phlebotomy Association, founded in 1978, has been the premier organization for educating and certifying phlebotomists in the United States. The Association was founded to create a standard and code of ethics for the profession of phlebotomy. To date, the NPA has certified more than 15,000 phlebotomists worldwide and has accredited programs nationwide.

American Academy of Physical Therapy: Dedicated to meeting the needs of minority physical therapists, the AAPT is a non-profit organization based in the state of Illinois. The Academy has developed and operates the Early Professional Socialization Experience Program, a federally funded program for the recruitment and retention of minority students in the filed of Physical Therapy. This program is an addition to traditional education programs supported by the Academy.

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Recognized as the world's largest accrediting organization, ARRT's goal is to ensure high quality patient care in the field of Radiologic Technology. The Registry tests and certifies technologists, and administers continuing education and ethics requirements.
American Society of Radiologic Technologists: The ASRT was founded in 1920 and has a membership of 109,000. Members are registered radiologic technologists; this is accomplished by completing an accreditation program and passing a national certification examination. The Society conducts two national education conferences each year and publishes two peer reviewed research journals.
