Hate Crime Laws
The Anti-Defamation League provides a comprehensive look at state and federal laws related to hate crimes. A clickable map of the U.S., under “State Hate Crime Laws,” leads to detailed information on current state legislation. The first level of information provides basic provisions in graph form which facilitates quick comparisons among states. Includes summaries of federal laws, model legislation, and discussions of issues such as the constitutionality of hate crime legislation, gender issues, enhanced sentencing for hate-related crimes, and a section on current initiatives.
Hate Crime Statistics
Published annually, Hate Crime Statistics is a collaboration between the FBI and the law enforcement agencies that identify and report hate crimes based on a "bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnicity, or sexual orientation." The site include information on offenses, victims, and offenders.
Hate Crimes Fact Sheet
From civilrights.org, this succinct fact sheet provides background, legislation actions, facts, and talking points. This brief sheet is part of the larger "Hate Crimes" section of civilrights.org, a coalition of over 190 national groups fighting for civil rights. Also included in the "Hate Crimes" section is up-to-date news articles, other resources and longer reports.
The Hate Directory : Hate Groups on the Internet
The Hate Directory lists the Internet sites of those individuals and groups that advocate violence or hostility towards others based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Includes directories of racist games and racialist friendly web hosting services. The current version is a non-printable PDF format. It can be viewed but not printed, however, links are clickable allowing access to the sites. The 1999 version is available in HTML.
In the Spotlight: Hate Crime
Sponsored by the U.S. National Criminal Justice Reference Service, an agency of the Department of Justice, this site provides a good overview of hate crimes in the U.S. Includes sections on legislation, including links to the full texts of relevant federal laws, statistics (based on the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports, see below), federally sponsored training programs for law enforcement officials, teachers and others, and links to related resources.
Partners Against Hate
Sponsored by a coalition of U.S. Government agencies and private organizations, the aim of this site is to promote public awareness of hate crimes and provide resources for their prevention. Look under "About Hate Crimes" for background information, federal law, and statistics. Look under "Promising Programs" for information on state initiatives. "PAH Publications" provides full text documents on hate crimes. The documents are in PDF and Word format.
Poisoning the Web: Hatred Online
Sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League. Provides background articles on major hate groups that maintain a presence on the web. Also includes an introductory article about hate groups online, and information on groups who provide bomb making manuals.
