PITTSBURGH-The Community College of Allegheny County's West Hills Center in Oakdale will host Odyssey Day in collaboration with Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities on Friday, Oct. 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The education and outreach event is coordinated by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy. This year's theme is "Smart Cities."

Odyssey Day is dedicated to promoting the use of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles and is designed to educate fleet managers, municipalities, school districts and others about cleaner transportation technologies and the important role they play in providing solutions to growing energy and environmental issues. The event is free, open to the public and will include vehicle displays, rides in alternative fuel vehicles, workshops, demonstrations, panel discussions, giveaways, networking, lunch and more.

Car manufacturers will be on hand with several hybrid and electric vehicles. A variety of vendors will have displays related to alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.

CCAC has hosted Odyssey Day annually since 2010, and interest in the event has been steadily growing, with 250 to 400 total attendees in recent years. CCAC Automotive Technology students routinely participate in the event to broaden their training.

"The students get more current information about what's going on in alternative transportation and realize the job opportunities are further reaching than they otherwise might know," said Robert Koch, CCAC Automotive Technology instructor and department head. "It is also a great event for the wider community, which gets the opportunity to see the latest technologies first hand and up close."

Registration is not required to attend. For more information, contact Robert Koch at 412.788.7378, or visit
