PITTSBURGH-The Community College of Allegheny County is offering
a nine-session class that has been developed to help individuals
prepare for the math portion of the entrance examination that is
used by the local trade unions when recruiting new apprentices. The
class will be held at CCAC Allegheny Campus on Saturdays from 8:00
a.m. to 11:25 a.m. beginning Aug. 25.
The Union Trade Exam Preparation-Mathematics course is designed
for students who have some background in arithmetic and basic
algebra, but need a review of those concepts in preparation for the
mathematics portion of a union trade entrance examination. Topics
include operations and properties of whole numbers, integers,
fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, unit
conversion, graphs and basic geometry.
According to Genevieve Foote, on-site director of CCAC's program
at IBEW Local 5, "The students who have taken the class and
gotten into the program say that it was very helpful."
Previously offered in CCAC's Community Education division, this
is now a credit class; however, it is not intended
for any transfer degree program or to replace MAT 080 or MAT 090
courses.
