Welcome back to the first Bullock’s Blog post of 2018! Spring is in swing, and I’m delighted to be able to officially welcome all of our students back for another exciting semester.

A new year can be an exciting milestone or catalyst for change, as evidenced by the popularity of setting New Year’s Resolutions or selecting a meaningful word or phrase to serve as an annual theme. It provides us an opportunity for a fresh start with a clean slate as we recommit our goals and refine our priorities. This self-reflection is a valuable exercise and can provide a level of clarity and focus that sets the tone for the rest of the year.

At CCAC, 2017 laid the groundwork for some exciting new projects and initiatives, such as the announcement of the plan to establish a new Workforce Training Center at Allegheny Campus. Other exciting projects, such as the revitalization of the Milton Hall rotunda at Allegheny Campus with interactive information kiosks and digital signage, saw their successful resolution last year.

All of these projects are united by a common theme: innovation. In 2018, we are building upon the work of 2017 and continuing to look forward to seek out opportunities for growth and to not only meet and exceed our existing goals, but embrace new ideas and priorities as they make themselves apparent.

2018 is off to a great start so far. Just last week, we cut the ribbon on the brand new Innovation Lab at CCAC North Campus. This unique and exciting new space houses a state-of-the-art computer lab, communal workspaces for both classes in session as well as individual students for encouraging collaborative creativity and new tools and technology that align with the needs of local industry as well as personal and professional interests.

The lab is open to all students, faculty and staff, but for the students enrolled in our high demand Data Analytics, Cybersecurity and Multimedia Programming, Computer Simulation and Gaming programs, this new facility is sure to be particularly exciting and useful. Stop on up and take a tour next time you’re up by North Campus—it is well worth a look.

As you move through 2018, I hope you strive for success in all of your endeavors. If you’re a student, I hope you seek out and utilize the resources and support systems here at CCAC so you can surmount any obstacle you meet and achieve excellence in your studies. Make 2018 your year to embrace innovation, in your work and school life and in your personal life as well.

Best wishes for a fantastic 2018 spring semester and an exciting and prosperous new year!
