Get a Head Start

Article by: Dr. Quintin Bullock, CCAC President

As I got started on this month’s blog post, something jogged in my head. So I glanced over my past blog posts and, sure enough, my very first blog post was in October of 2015. I’ve officially been doing Bullock’s Blog for one year! Time really does fly.

And it is precisely with this idea in mind that I chose the topic for month’s blog post: time.

Specifically, I want to convey to you, my readers, the importance of getting a head start on some of your most important college deadlines so that time doesn’t escape you, as it has me. Fortunately for you, there are a lot of great opportunities right now to help you get the jump on your spring classes.

Some of you may already be aware of this, but students can now fill out their FAFSA for the following school year beginning October 1, rather than having to wait until the start of the year.

Being able to fill out your FAFSA before the hectic holiday season not only gives you more time and allows you to figure out your finances earlier than ever before, but turning in your paperwork early can also put you in line for some first-come, first-served free financial aid resources. Why wait?

While we’re on the subject of finances, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that CCAC has recently launched our new TouchNet online payment system. This system makes it easier than ever to pay for classes and handle other expenses—100% online.

Perhaps the most exciting feature of this service is that it is now possible to authorize third-party users to log in to your TouchNet account to make payments on your behalf. Now, if a parent, relative or other party wants to help you pay for school, you can set them up with their own login information so they can make payments on your account without any hassle. You can learn more about this exciting new service on the CCAC website.

Last, but certainly not least, early registration season is upon us! Yes, you can now search for and register for your spring classes online and reserve your spot for the classes you need next semester. How much more relaxing will your upcoming holiday season be (Thanksgiving is only a month away) if you already have your FAFSA, your payment plan and your spring class schedule all taken care of before Halloween?

In the same spirit of getting that early start on things, I would urge you to start thinking about your holiday plans now as well. I certainly have! I love planning a great holiday meal for my family and friends. But that is a topic that I’ll be saving for next month’s blog post.

Final note: If you’re interested in trying out some of my famous cooking, swing by CCAC Allegheny Campus this Wednesday during the Open House for QB’s BBQ and grab yourself a burger, some Texas potato salad and my famous lemonade, made from a top secret recipe. I’ll be at the grill from 3:00 to 4:00!

The November Bullock’s Blog will be scheduled a week earlier than usual (November 22 rather than 29) so you can catch up on the blog over Thanksgiving Break. Mark your calendars!
