Read Dr. Bullock's Statement on the Presidential Executive Order on Immigration

Article by: Dr. Quintin B. Bullock
Dear Members of the CCAC Family,

On Friday, January 27, President Trump signed an executive order on immigration that has already had a significant impact on our country and our region and has the potential to impact members of our college community. While the details of precisely who is impacted by this executive action, and under what circumstances, are unclear at this time, we do know that the repercussions of this action are far reaching. Our institution shares the sentiments of many of our peer institutions who have voiced concerns about the potential discriminatory nature of this order and the long-term impact it might have on our community and our institution. CCAC joins the broader academic community in calling for a sensible and measured immigration policy that protects national security without sacrificing the ideals enshrined in our constitution.

During this time, we wish to reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive college environment and remind our community that CCAC is an institution that values and respects all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry or place of birth, sex, gender identity or expression, perceived gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, use of a service animal due to disability, marital status, familial status, genetic information, veteran status, age or other classification protected by applicable law. Our nation was founded on the principle of inclusion, and it is our belief that our democracy works best when we allow all individuals to be valued and included in our society. We encourage each member of the CCAC family to seek out additional information regarding the changing nature of the nation’s political landscape.

As an institution, CCAC remains committed to honoring and embracing diversity by creating a positive, inclusive community that respects individual differences and values the unique experiences and perspectives of all students, faculty and staff. As a reminder, the Office of Institutional Diversity & Inclusion is available for information on issues related to diversity, inclusion, civility and understanding.
