CCAC golfers place third and fourth at WPCC Golf Championship

Freshman golfers from CCAC North and South campuses show great potential

PITTSBURGH—Community College of Allegheny County golfers Dominic Achille and Blake Martin took third and fourth place, respectively, in the two-round 2019 Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Golf Championship that took place October 5 and 6 at the Links at Spring Church in Apollo.

Achille, who attends CCAC South Campus, finished third with a score of 167, and Martin, who attends CCAC West Hills Center, finished fourth with a score of 171 on the par-72 course. Both freshman golfers played well throughout the entire season and were named to the WPCC All-Conference Team.

“This was the first outing at the WPCC championship for these two, so coming in third and fourth is pretty impressive,” said their coach, CCAC Student Development Specialist Robert Keslar.

A total of 12 golfers qualified for the finals, with Achille and Martin ranked 1 and 2, respectively, coming into the tournament. Carmen Oliva from Butler County Community College finished first with a score of 156.

Achille, of South Park, and Martin, of Mt. Lebanon, will play for CCAC again in the spring and in the following school year. Keslar expects them to do very well.

“We’re planning to put in a lot of work this winter, and we’re looking forward to a great spring.”
