CCAC Allegheny Campus to host “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” lecture and screening on Nov. 15
PITTSBURGH—Community College of Allegheny County’s Allegheny Campus will host a screening of the acclaimed documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” along with a lecture by Dr. Roberta Schomburg, executive director of the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media, on Friday, November 15. The lecture will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by the screening from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m. and a Q&A period from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. The event will be held in the Foerster Student Services Center Auditorium and will conclude with a reception and refreshments in the auditorium lobby.
The free event, which is jointly sponsored by Allegheny Campus Student Life and the Students for Human Life and Dignity Club, is open to the public as well as the CCAC community. The content will be of special interest to early childhood development and history students.
Schomburg’s background in child development and early learning led her to work with Fred Rogers beginning in 1982 on a project to support early childhood professionals who were using the “Mister Rogers Neighborhood” television program in their child care homes or classrooms. The work expanded to include various professional development projects at Family Communications, Inc. (now Fred Rogers Productions). Prior to being named executive director, Schomburg was a senior fellow at the Fred Rogers Center from 2006 to 2014. She holds a doctorate in administrative and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh with a specialization in child development. She is professor emerita at Carlow University, where she taught for 25 years and was an associate dean and director of the School of Education. She continues in her role as consultant to Fred Rogers Productions and is an advisor for “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.”
