STEM Science Math and Technologies at CCAC

Often referred to as the jobs of the future, STEM careers are in strong demand as the need for
workers in high-paying STEM fields continues to grow, resulting in greater economic opportunity
for years to come. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Career Outlook, overall
STEM employment is expected to grow about 13 percent between 2012 and 2022—faster than
the 11 percent rate of growth projected for all occupations over the decade.
Electrical Engineering and Electronics
This program emphasizes theory and its applications in electronics, along with basic
concepts and skills, for entry-level positions. Applications include computers, communication
equipment, monitoring devices, and product evaluation and testing. Graduates may find
employment as electronics technicians, helping engineers to design and develop computers.
They may also work in product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic
devices. The program is also designed to transfer to a four-year institution, leading
to a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering Technology.
The Electonics certificate program prepares students for entry-level positions in
the field of electronics by providing a general understanding of concepts, terminology
and common tools and instruments. The program features a balance between theory and
practical applications through the use of both computer simulations and real-world
circuitry. Graduates may seek employment in the areas of technical sales or component
and unit testing with job titles such as assembler, technician or engineering assistant.
