Instructor Training and Recertification
CCAC offers a comprehensive instructor-training program designed for those who wish to instruct in the public safety arena. The program includes use of instructional techniques, as well as specialized training for many of the programs offered though the CCAC Public Safety Institute including: CPR, EMT, Rescue, HAZMAT, FIRE, American Heart Association. We examine all aspects of educational methodology, including lesson preparation, student motivation, instructional techniques, use of audio-visual materials, evaluation mechanisms, and classroom management.
EMS Instructor:
This course is designed to equip the individual with the necessary knowledge to be
an instructor with an emergency service.
BLS Instructor
This course is designed for those current in American Heart Association Provider CPR
who wish to become instructors. Students must have a current healthcare provider card
and must complete Part 1 (the online didactic portion of the course) prior to taking
Part 2.
Recertification
CCAC PSI offers a wide range of Continuing Education classes for anyone involved in public safety and for the members of the general public who have an interest in learning more about EMS, fire, rescue, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) and a number of other topics.
Many of the programs are eligible for PA DOH Continuing Education credit for Prehospital providers.
HeartCode ACLS
HeartCode ACLS is the blended learning delivery method for the AHA ACLS course. Blended
learning is a combination of eLearning and hands-on practice. The student completes
part of the course in a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning environment that uses
eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare
settings (Part 1), followed by hands-on skills practice (Part 2) and skills test with
an AHA ACLS instructor (Part 3).
- Part 1: Register and complete the course. Must pass with a minimum score of 84% before proceeding to Parts 2 & 3.

Upon successful completion of all parts of the course, the student receives an AHA ACLS course completion card, valid for two years.
HeartCode PALS
HeartCode PALS is the blended learning delivery method for the AHA PALS course that
teaches healthcare providers knowledge and skills needed to recognize and prevent
cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children in virtual healthcare settings. The
student completes the eSimulation part of the course (Part 1) by applying knowledge
to real-time decision-making and skills development. Successful completion of Part
1 is followed by hands-on skills practice (Part 2) and skills test with an AHA ACLS
instructor (Part 3).

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
This ACLS course highlights the standards and guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and emergency cardiac care as outlined by the American Heart Association, the American
Red Cross, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the American College of
Cardiology.
General Prerequisites: 1) Current Paramedic, PHRN or Physician 2) Current CPR card.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
At the conclusion of this program, you should be able to: identify information and
strategies for preventing cardiac arrest in infants and children; recognize the infant
at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; utilize the necessary knowledge and skills to
resuscitate and stabilize the infant or child victim of cardiopulmonary arrest.
Prerequisites: 1) Current Paramedic, RN or Physician 2) A current AHA Basic Cardiac
Life Support Professional Rescuer.
Trauma Life Support:
There are a variety of Trauma Life Support Courses available for both Advanced Life
Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) providers. These courses focus on the prehospital
management of trauma patients at either level. Course content includes trauma patient
assessment, stabilization of the trauma patient, rapid extrication techniques and
for ALS providers several advanced trauma skills. The course includes lecture and
practical skill sessions. The advanced skills that the student is introduced to include
both needle thoracentesis and cricotracheotomy.
Prerequisites: 1) Current Paramedic, RN or Physician.
Recertification Programs
CCAC PSI offers a variety of refresher/recertification programs including ACLS, PALS
and TLS. These programs are generally shorter, however all of the required topics
are covered.
