This course provides an overview of personal health and wellness. Active learning experiences encourage the exploration of personal wellness and lifestyle concepts. Topics include, but are not limited to: fitness, nutrition, sexuality, smoking, alcohol and substance abuse, stress, and emotional wellness. Participation in class activities assists the formulation of an individualized wellness plan.

Health is not defined simply as the absence of disease, but as a high level of wellness of the entire individual. The interrelatedness of the dimensions of health-including physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual and environmental-draws the student into the understanding that health is about choices, decisions and relationships.

This course offers you the opportunity to evaluate your own health lifestyle using knowledge from nationally renowned experts from various fields of medicine and health. You are encouraged to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills-along with new knowledge-to make the decisions and modifications necessary to improve your lifestyle behaviors.
